Speaking under influence of the Holy Spirit is prophecy.
Giving messages to people from God is NOT! That is called being a medium.
There is a big difference.
The bible prohibits using mediums of any kind (those practicing witchcraft OR those claiming to give messages from God).
The only time people gave messages from God to others was in the Old Testament.
We are living in New Testament times. Christ died so that everyone can now have direct access to the Father because of Jesus' death. We can now receive the Holy Spirit to dwell in us. We no longer need other people to tell us what God wants us to know - God can tell us directly.
Old Testament prophecy is very different from New Testament prophecy. What this author is talking about is OT prophecy, and since we are no longer in the OT times, what he is claiming is not valid or sound biblical doctrine. He is severely misled.
Consider one of the greatest New Testament prophets of all - John the Baptist. He was so humble he didn't know he was what he was and he certainly didn't sit around telling people about his "gift" or going on and on about messages he gave to people and he didn't publish a book for people to buy talking about his great gift!
Please stay away from this book. It is not sound biblically and is spiritually misleading. It sounds as though he is suffering from delusions or hallucinations. There are, unfortunately, a LOT of false prophets and false christianity out there and this book is representative of that. It looks really good from afar and sounds believable if you don't know any better.
Just because someone says they are hearing from God doesn't mean they actually are. Elizabeth Smart's kidnapper said God told him to take her as a second wife and the kidnapper's wife believed him. Careful what you buy into as truth folks!!!
A lie is most convincing when it is put in between two truths.
If you would like to know more about how God works, you would be much better served by reading Henry Blackaby's "Experiencing God." If you would like to know more about knowing your true identity in Christ as well as recognizing false prophecy, take a look at Neil T. Anderson's "The Bondage Breaker."

To say In His service is life changing doesn't do it justice. My whole christian walk/experience starting in the late 70's and was based on learning about an American Jesus, and an American gospel, and following a religion system that Jesus came to expose. In His service help me understand Jesus' teachings and what it means to be a true disciple of Him. Not many people will be attracted to this book, because it calls for them to be 100% committed or all in. Today's christianity is so different then the first century church, and when you finish this book you will either have tears of Joy or you will condemn it as blasphemy. I guarantee those who are true seekers of truth and teachable will say like I do its a book that will change your paradigm forever. Eric Wheeler might have penned these words but in my opinion the Holy Spirit wrote this book.
This was a book that I couldn't put down. I think it's fantastic that the author had the gumption to lay it all on the line like this.
His recollections of prophecy and miracles are inspiring and the hardships that the author as well as all of God's children endure in His name are real and that is the discipline of the Lord that we read about in Hebrews 12. This discipline prepares us for God's plans for us. The prophecies that are mentioned here all stand up to biblical scrutiny.
I for one did indeed weep a bit after reading almost all of the responses that people had that were touched by the author's prophecies. No book has ever moved me to such a response.
There is a specific instance where the author spoke words from God for a long time to a jailhouse full of gangs and hatred and many were hugging and forgiving afterward and the author has no recollection of any words that he spoke. This was very touching to me and spoke to my heart about he power of God.
Why would somebody go through all the trouble of making up a book like this? Certainly not for the money. Certainly not for the notoriety. If anything more condemnation will be hurled his way. All power and glory and credit is firmly given to God.
You are free to challenge these prophecies if you are so inclined and if you find that they don't fit your biblical view then don't believe them. It's that simple. One reviewer whom I rebuked in a comment went so far as to rebuke the author based on their bias that there is no New Testament prophets that speak to people. I guess they never read the Book of Revelation which was clearly written after Pentecost.
If you don't agree with these prophecies and you choose to label the author as a false prophet then you should have the decency to back your claims up with specific evidence from scripture and if not then just keep it to yourself because nobody wants to hear unsubstantiated critical views.
From the literary side, the book could have used better editing from a flow perspective but the author is up-front about his short-comings in this area so I can't ding him for that. It is heart-felt literature and I was inspired and changed for the better for having read it.
My point of view is from one who believes that all have been sanctified by the resurrection of the Lord Jesus and I have personally accepted His free gift of salvation.
